The Story

The Idea

Ever have one of those late night, crazy-idea-anything-goes brainstorm sessions? Ones that are spurred on by wine?

I had made and given scrubs successfully as gifts for a couple of years when I decided that I needed something else on my plate beside mothering a small child. My ever gracious and long-suffering husband agreed (as he does with most of my ideas that aren’t likely to end in bloodshed) to let me start this small business. My first offerings were limited to one size, 4 scents, and one lotion bar.

And sell my crochet? Not a chance in hell. There was no way I’d ever have the confidence for that. Until a vendor asked me point blank why. When I didn’t have an answer for her, I knew it was time to put it all out there.

Since then, my business has grown exponentially. I've more than doubled my product offerings. I've added three product lines. So if I go quiet on social media or the blog, I'm probably cooking something else up. Or brainstorming. Or researching. Or working on a bunch of other things that I have to keep track of as the wearer of all the hats. '“Open a small business,” they said. “It will be easy,” they said.

The Goods

Kiss My Scrubs offers several different types of body, face, and lip scrubs in a variety of scents and exfoliation levels.

Current (August 2019) scent offerings include: Eucalyptus, Lavender, Rosemary, Geranium, Lemongrass & Basil, Frankincense, and more.

I only use sugars and salts as my main exfoliators because they dissolve in water. Which means you aren’t as likely to over scrub. It is like a built-in fail safe. Exfoliators are Dead Sea salt, Pink Himalayan salt, raw sugar, cane sugar, and brown sugar. Other exfoliators include matcha green tea and coffee but are limited within their scrubs. Each scrub gives you an indication of which skin type they are best suited for.

Scrubs are made with a variety of oils including grapeseed, almond, apricot, meadowfoam, tamanu, sunflower, avocado, and safflower seed oil.

Kiss My Scrubs also offers a variety of lotion bars. Solid lotion made from beeswax, grapeseed oil, and shea butter, they are absolutely wonderful and a top seller. New scents are being added as inspiration strikes, so check back.

Then there are the face masks. I prefer the wet masks so they don’t dry and crack on my skin. I use a variety of clays and available scents include tea tree, lavender, and rosemary geranium.

Stitch On A Stick offers a variety of handmade crochet items from infinity scarves, to hats, to coffee sleeves. And some golf club covers thrown in for good measure.

The Bottom Line

I make it all. Everything that I sell. The vast majority of these recipes are my own and the rest have been tweaked within inches of their lives. This means that I know every ingredient that I am putting into my product and I share that information with every purchase. No really, It's your skin, after all.

This also means... not every product turns out the same every time. This can also mean temporary shortages of certain products if things don’t turn out the way I want them to.

I try and source items and packaging from smaller businesses so packaging can be different from time to time. Just because the packaging is different, though, doesn’t mean the product is. As always, you can send me an email if you have questions or concerns about the look of a product. I’m happy to answer them for you!

The best part about all of this is… I’m always open to suggestions or custom orders. I know what I have on hand and what I can get so we can work together to come up with something unique or special. If enough people ask about something, I’m bound to add it to the lineup. (That’s how lip scrubs came into being.)

I do all the crochet myself as well. After hours of research and practice, I have and continue to write my own patterns. This is why things may take a bit longer, especially when I’m creating something new. Trust though, that you are getting a crochet product that is unique to you. Pretty cool, right?

I’m always open to suggestions, questions, etc. Feel free to email me at info@kissmyscrubs.com
